Open Date
Participants who attend this one-half day course, will learn the history and application of the laryngeal mask airway. The didactic review employs real-patient video and will be supplemented by mannequin practice.
After completing the prerequisite reading, a preliminary lecture and mannequin sessions, the participate will spend 5 hours in the operating rooms of Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he/she will place the LMA, LMA-flexible, & the LMA Fastrach. The teaching protocol will also include fiberoptic exam via the LMA, and fiberoptic-aided intubation through the Fastrach. Retrograde intubation through the LMA will be taught on airway mannequins. Because only one clinician is invited to each course, both the didactic and operating room sessions allow for personal attention and a free exchange of ideas. Our administrative staff will aid the participant in securing temporary admitting privileges at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
