CME Conference

Yale Psychopharmacology Masterclass
Psychiatry

This activity has been rescheduled from October 29, 2009.  We are sorry for the inconvenience and hope you can join us in December.

Major depressive disorder (MDD), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other psychiatric disorders have been listed by the World Health Organization as being some of the major causes of illness and disability in the world. By the year 2020, the WHO has projected that MDD, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia will be among the top 10 causes of morbidity in the world and will be the second leading cause of illness and disability (Murray and Lopez 1997).

Recent advances in clinical trials have led to a change in the way we view current psychiatric medications. There is a pressing need for these findings to be communicated to psychiatric clinicians and translated in a meaningful way to improve the outcomes of patients suffering from psychiatric disorders. This CME activity will provide this needed education to a broad audience of practitioners who see patients with MDD, bipolar disorder and other psychiatric disorders in daily practice.

Learning Objectives

Participants who attend this conference will be able to:

  • Describe state of the art data on the role of current psychotropic medications in the treatment of major psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia, MDD, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders etc
  • Apply rationale prescribing practices in keeping with recent guidelines released by the American Psychiatric Association.
  • Identify future developments in psychopharmacology which may impact practice.
  • State the role of various psychopharmacological and psychosocial treatment in challenging situations.
